‘O thou, my Muse! guid auld Scotch drink!…
…Inspire me, till I lisp an’ wink’
Och aye, it’s fair to say Scotland’s National Bard was giy fond ae a dram. He mused about it, wrote about it, and of course, drank plenty of it. Many a word was scrawled on a cold Scots night with cheeks red and warm from the Water of Life. Here, that’s not bad by the way.
Like everything native to Scotland, Burns was infatuated with the stuff – that’s why it’s raised as a toast at dinner nights all around the country on nights like tonight.
In celebration we’ve specially selected five unbelievable scotch whiskys, which are fit for the Bard himsel. Is there any better way to celebrate his life and times than a bottle of Scotland’s finest?
Sláinte Mhath!
A mighty single malt with extra spirit. This Speyside from Dufftown is the Singelton’s signature release. Cascase is a delicate mix of whiskys aged in ex-sherry and ex-bourbon casks that provides a unique, full-bodied flavour.
Victoriana prides itself on a special blend of flavour and aroma to give a unique whisky drinking experience. The scent of toasted vanilla gives way to the flavours of bold blackcurrant and burnt toffee. All the way from Campbeltown, it’s a brilliant special edition from the famous whisky town.
A decidedly elegant bottle of scotch, this whisky consists of a grainy, cereal like base with elements of Brazil nut, with a sweet yet smoky finish with peat flavours. Where did we find this soft, nutty, little beauty from? On the bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomond – where else? Sorry.
Copper Dog has all the bark, and all the bite of a special blend. A unique Speyside blended malt whisky, it brings together no fewer than eight malts to deliver a unique flavour expression. There’s a enchanting fruitiness to it that transports you to an Orchard.
Citrus is the mark of Auchentoshan, with tangerine and lime complimenting its full-bodied texture. There’s a real flavour of toasted almonds and caramelised toffee here which lift this Lowland Single Malt. Drinkable, enjoyable and best of all, the perfect toast to the Bard.
